On 24th July 1941, Flying Officer Eric Simcox Marrs, DFC, aged 20, was piloting Supermarine Spitfire IIa P7881 of No. 152 Squadron RAF from RAF Warmwell in Dorset. The aircraft was operating over Porspoder in Finistère, France during a fighter operation. Marrs was killed in the action. Sergeant James Alexander Short, service number 745244, was also lost during the same operation while flying Spitfire IIa P8512, though he survived as a prisoner of war.
