The Short Sunderland was a British flying boat patrol bomber used extensively during World War II, primarily by the Royal Air Force. It was known for its long-range reconnaissance capabilities and played a significant role in anti-submarine warfare against U-boats. The Sunderland was crucial in anti-submarine warfare, particularly against German U-boats. Its long-range capabilities allowed it to conduct extensive maritime patrols, cargo transport, and air-sea rescue missions. By the start of WWII, three squadrons were equipped with Sunderlands. Participated in the Berlin Airlift and the Korean War, completing nearly 900 sorties. Capable of staying airborne for up to 16 hours.
