No. 3 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force began transitioning from obsolescent Gladiator aircraft to modern Hawker Hurricane Mk.I fighters on 12th January 1941. Three pilots flew Gladiators back to No. 102 Maintenance Unit at RAF Abu Sueir before travelling by road to RAF Station Amriya to commence training on the new aircraft.
